Love, Hope, Peace, and Books from Book Chase

Merry Christmas to all. I hope you are all having and enjoying a wonderful day with friends and family.

Plans here changed on Wednesday when we learned that two family members had been exposed to Covid, so for the second year in a row we are celebrating a quiet Christmas, just the two of us. It's disappointing, but we did have a good run of family gatherings during the rest of the year, so 2021 could have been a whole lot worse - and it was much better than 2020. I'm betting/hoping that we finally turn the corner next year.

Happy Reading, friends!

  1. Merry Christmas, Sam. Sorry to hear about your family getting covid. Our youngest and her family conveniently had it in November so we've been able to have everyone here - eight of us. And it's been a lovely day. Yes, I too am thinking that we should turn the corner next year. *Fingers crossed*

    1. Happy to hear that you were able to celebrate with family, Cath. It almost has to be better in another whole year of tinkering...doesn't it?

    1. Thanks. I think we are all very ready to turn the page on 2021. Here's hoping for a better 2022.

  3. We were alone as well. Daughter with her huband's family, and son's two sons both had the virus (mild symptoms, thank God), with the oldest out of quarantine today or tomorrow but too soon for us to take a chance. Jim Gaffigan has an all too true routine on covid. On Netflix.

    1. It's kind of ironic that so many were fully recovered just a day or two after Christmas; that was the case here.

  6. Sorry to hear your Christmas plans did not work out. We did have (9) of us over and felt comfortable doing so. We know triple-vaxed people with COVID (mild flu-like symptoms fortunately. Sadly, we also know a 49 y/old - unvaxed woman who just passed away from the virus. Hoping 2022 is a better year for all of us.

    1. I count nine people that we know personally who came down with the virus just before or, even worse, just after Christmas. I wonder what the numbers will look like a week from now.

  7. Oh, that really is too bad. We were able to have all of our family who live here for our family celebration but some who live out of state and had planned to come were not able to. Better luck to all of us next year.

  8. Happy Christmas! Our holdiay plans also got changed last minute due to a covid exposure. The person I know who got it had mild symptoms, glad of that at least. It was also a breakthrough infection. Makes me feel doubly cautious again, even tho I feel everyone in my household would have mild symptoms too, as we're all fully vaccinated here. I am relieved I like reading so much! Don't mind too much being holed up a while longer, though the others going stir crazy makes me feel the stress as well. . .

    1. We are still feeling nervous about this new outbreak, too, Jeane, especially since I'm not seeing much masking around here these days despite all the new cases. We are fully vaccinated, too, but my wife just had the booster yesterday. And she's feeling bad today.

  10. Darn Covid ruins everything! I'm sorry your holiday didn't go as expected. Hopefully, your quiet Christmas was still a good one.

    Happy New Year, Sam!

    1. Happy New Year, Susan. New Year's Eve is going to be just as quiet around here as Christmas was, looks like. Another son-in-law may have it now. Harris County, Texas, is out of control right now when it comes to new Covid cases.

  11. Peace & happiness to you as well. We had a quiet twosome Christmas too along with the two dogs. Have the covid cases you've heard about there been severe or mild? I'm just wondering if the hospitals will fill up or no?

  12. Thanks for the good wishes. For the most part, the cases are much milder than before. I don't personally know of anyone that has been hospitalized by this new wave. We counted up again last night to see how many cases we personally know of, and we came up with thirteen. One of those is an 84 year old man, and he was feeling pretty good again (still had a cough) after 6 days. Several others were in their mid-seventies, and all but one have had a relatively easy time of it.
