Obama's Free Book

Book bloggers aren't the only ones who pick up "review copies" now and then. Even President Obama snagged one this weekend. Unfortunately for Obama, though, his freebie came directly from the hands of that Venezuelan Bozo, Hugo Chavez - and it's in Spanish.

AZCentral.com has the details:
President Barack Obama's advisers cited a long reading list and the fact he doesn't read Spanish as reasons he might not read the book Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez gave him Saturday: "Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent," by Uruguayan journalist Eduardo Galeano.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs wouldn't say whether Obama planned to read the book, which argues that Latin America "continues to work as a servant."
Can't wait to read the presidential review...yeah, right.

  1. Interestingly enough, the book given to Obama by Chavez blitzed the Amazon.com bestsellers list...it actually secured the No. 10 slot in a matter of hours, it seems. What's even more touching is the sentimental note inscribed therein: Para Obama con afecto (to Obama with affection). You must, of course, recognise that my comment is written with a most generous dose of sarcasm. No amount of smiling, handshaking, warm embraces or even book exchanging can convince me that we are on the path to "positive change".

  2. I hear you, Cate. Anyone taking this bozo seriously is making a huge mistake. He is a clown and is definitely not to be trusted or encouraged (which is what I fear Obama has done by smiling and shaking hands with him this way).
