Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters

Has anyone read the books in this series? If so, does this book trailer accurately capture their tone and content? I have to admit, I might watch a 60-minute video along the lines of this trailer but I'm not sure I'm up to reading one of these "classics." Any thoughts?

  1. I don't know whether to love the idea of this or hate it!!

  2. I haven't read of these, nor do I ever expect to. It's very hard for me to imagine these books being any funnier or more clever than the titles and cover artwork.

  3. I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and had some fun with it. Purists might go a bit crazy, and Elizabeth was a bit...sociopathic, but it was interesting to see how some of the original text was reworked or added to. It was actually kind of interesting how well zombies fit in with certain parts of the original. One thing reading it left me with was a desire to reread the original, which I last read maybe 10 years ago. Not sure how those who reread it regularly would feel about the book.

I haven't read Sense and Sensibility or Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters, but my feeling, based off of P&P&Z is that the "feel" of the trailer is similar to the "feel" that P&P&Z had, so if you don't like what you see, you should probably skip the book.

  4. Haven't and won't. People who aren't talented or creative enough to write their own novels making a buck by capitalizing on others' talents. Well, their "bucks" aren't coming from me.

  5. I hear you, Elise...it is a strange concept to me and does seem a bit too much like those old Mad Magazine parodies I enjoyed as a kid.

  6. Gotta agree with you, Pete...the originals are impossible to improve upon.

  7. Wow, Library Girl, I'm kind of surprised that these books would make anyone want to re-read the original titles...feared it would be the opposite. That's good news.

  8. Annie, this is very similar to "fan fiction," in which fanatics take their favorite fictional characters and write new stories about them...normally frowned upon, from what I see.

  9. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was so much fun but I don't see any point in going on with another. Why lessen the fun factor?

  10. Bybee, they do seem they would have a relatively short shelf life...each less than the one before it, in fact.
