Larry McMurtry (born June 3, 1936 in Archer City, Texas), three-time winner of the Jesse H. Jones Award from the Texas Institute of Letters, regular contributor to The New York Review of Books, and probably best known for the film adaptations of his work: Hud, The Last Picture Show, Terms of Endearment, and of course, Lonesome Dove
