Last List for 2007...I Promise

I read more books this year (and gave up on more) than I have since I started keeping track in February 1970. This year's reading included:

Novels - 116

Non-Novel Comedy - 2

Short Story Collections - 3

Non-Fiction - 38

Books by Men - 97

Books by Women - 60

Books by Mixed Gender Team - 2

Abandoned Books - 15

Pre-20th Century Books - 4

Review Copies - 31

Sports Related - 3

Unfinished Books Carried to 2008 - 3

Re-Reads - 3 (including two 19th century classics)
This is the first time that I've taken the time to detail my reading for a year and I'm a little bit pleased to see that I read some 61 books written by women. For some reason, I always feel that I'm slighting female authors despite the fact that so many of my favorite writers are women: Joyce Carol Oates, Ruth Rendell, Elizabeth George, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Mary Gordon, Jane Austen, for example.

All in all, it's been a good reading year for me and I'm looking forward to the same for 2008, especially since my blog will officially be a year old on January 20, hard to believe as that is for me. I can't wait to see what I manage to chase down in the next 12 months.

  3. I really love the way individual readers break their reading into categories.

You've had a really good year, Sam!

  4. Thanks, Eva...I'll check your site to see what you had to say about 2007.

  5. Thanks, SFP...I consciously try to read as much nonfiction as I can but I get "lazy" at times and don't get it done. I don't know why that is because I really enjoy it.

  6. Thanks, Jenclair. 2007 was a fun year for me, for sure. I'm looking forward to my 2008 reading in a way that I haven't looked forward to in years. Must be all this good conversation in the world of blogging. :-)

  9. Wow, that's a lot of reading! I'm impressed. A little jealous. OK, a *lot* jealous!

It's hard for me to realize that you haven't been blogging all that long...glad you reminded me of your blog's birthday...I'll hunt up my party hat!

  10. It definitely feels to me that I've been at it longer than almost one year, bybee. I've met so many people in that short time that it sort of distorts my sense of how long it's been.

I did have a rather irritating time with a political blog for about six months...that seemed liked five years in real time.

  11. Wow--Now that is an impressive list of books! How cool that you've been keeping track for so long--I started maybe nine or ten years ago and it is interesting to go back and look over my lists. Of course I wish I had written more about them...a little belatedly...Happy New Year!

  12. I wish I'd written more about them over the years, too, Danielle, because it's pretty depressing to look at the list and draw so many blanks on the titles. Of course, so many of them were "trash" anyway, that it's not all bad that I've completely forgotten their contents. :-)
