I started noticing emails from Amazon around December 23 about one-day sales and the like on a handful of e-books at a time. So despite already having a TBR list numbering several hundred books, I clicked on the link and went shopping for bargain e-books. I think I'm more easily sucked in to bargain books now than ever before because Barnes & Noble quit carrying publisher remainders after covid. I used to buy three or four dozen bargain hardbacks at my local B&N every year before they decided to ruin that bit of fun. Anyway, here's a quick look at what I've downloaded in the last four or five days:

That's already plenty, but I'm also waiting to pull the trigger on a couple of higher priced e-books until tomorrow in order to take advantage of the Triple Kindle Points day. This is starting to scare me now...
North Woods has been getting amazing reviews but I was sort of hesitating (plus I have dozens of library books out and didn't feel the need to rush into it). However, it would be great if you read it first! :)
ReplyDeleteI've seen lots of positive spin on North Woods, Constance, and the only reason I'm just now buying it (but the price did work out nicely, didn't it) is that I'm put off a bit by its strange cover. I haven't bothered to learn the source of the picture, but it is just "wrong" to me. I'm hoping to get to it early in 2024.
DeleteI grabbed North Woods back at the beginning of the month when it was cheap here in the UK. Been waiting for that one. I find if you wait patiently (not my strong point) a lot of books get an offer on them eventually. Like you, I'm a total sucker for cheapy ebooks on Amazon.
ReplyDeleteHave we talked about Dan Simmons? Apologies if we have but I wondered why there were no books from him since 2016 and Googled it. He apparently sustained a head injury from which he's never properly recovered and writing is now a real problem for him. It's shocking and tragic.
It's not so much patience with me, Cath, more a matter of being overwhelmed by my TBR list and the pace at which it just keeps growing. But I didn't even know I wanted some of these titles until those emails began popping up; that can't be good. "-)
DeleteI hadn't, I think, heard that about Simmons. It's a terrible situation for sure, and I'm going to try to find out how he's doing now. I do think we may have spoken a bit about it all, but there's only so much memory available to me these days. If I fill it up, something else immediately gets pushed out.
Bargain books in any form are very hard to resist. And it looks like you picked up some really good ones. Happy reading! :D
ReplyDeleteI think the word is "impossible" to resist, Lark. I REALLY miss the days of going into a B&N store and browsing the bargain book shelves. Now there's nothing on them but cheap reprints of the same old books or of the type of nonfiction I'd never read at any price.
DeleteI really miss what Barnes &Noble used to be, too. I used to go in once a month and come out with some books every time, but now I never seem to find anything to buy. And I don't really go there much any more. It's sad.
DeleteSame here. I almost always come out of the store sadder than when I went in, and I almost never buy anything now because all the so-called sales force you to buy more than one book to get even 25% off list on both of them, so they're not much of a sale at all. They insist on following the British bookstore model under their new ownership...and I hated that model even when I lived in London. Never thought I'd live to see it be foisted on readers in this country.
DeleteThose are some good deals! Gosh I'm a bit scared to click on the bargain e-books ... gosh I'd buy a lot. I can't believe The Terror is just $1.99. I like that price. I usually get Book Bub to email deals each day and I look for $1.99 good novels mostly. It's a compulsion.

DeleteI bought a lot of ebooks last night because of the triple points offer. All $2.99 or lower, I rarely spend more than that on ebooks. I will still be looking today, although I hope not to overdo it.
ReplyDeleteMy philosophy is always that at that price, you can afford to indulge yourself. I hate that so many publishers insist on $15 or $16 for current e-books, because I think that's really poor marketing on their part. And don't even get me started on how they price-gouge libraries along with all the limitations they place on library use of e-books. I hope you got some great stuff!
