In and Out - But Mostly Out
My second cataract surgery and lens implantation was done early this morning, and that means that my reading and blogging time will be severely limited/handicapped for the next six or seven days. I've really got to force myself to stay away from physical books and the internet as much as possible because that is supposed to hasten the healing process, but that's tough for me. Until the eyeball swelling goes down considerably, I can't see much of anything out of my left eye, so there's that for motivation.

How awful, especially for a reader! Hopefully all the annoyance will be worth it in the end. Here's hoping for a quick and full recovery!
ReplyDeleteI'm very optimistic tonight since the second eye seems to be about two days ahead of where the other eye was at the same point. Maybe this eye will not swell as much as the first. Thanks for the good wishes.
DeleteI feel for you, Sam. Even a short (relatively speaking, although terribly long for a reader) hiatus from reading must be terribly frustrating. It is wonderful that surgery can do so much to restore vision, though. Hang in there!
ReplyDeleteJenclair, I could very well end up with the best uncorrected eyesight I've had since Junior High School. I will likely still use "cheaters" for reading, but it will be so wonderful to wake up in the morning and not have to immediately wonder where i left my glasses.
DeleteHope it all goes well!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lark. It seems to be going well.
DeleteHope you recover from this surgery as quickly as the last lot, Sam. You'll soon be reading again.
ReplyDeleteCath, as I mentioned to Susan, this eye seems to be ahead of the schedule I expected it to be on. I'm trying not to get my hopes up to high, but this is very encouraging so far.
DeleteWhen you say "physical books", does that mean you can use a Kindle?? I may call on you when (and so hopefully, if) I have this. Anyhow, I'm glad you came back to blogging for all the wonderful support.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, no, Nan, Kindles count as "physical books" in this case. There's something about the focusing required to read the written word that, according to my surgeon, is too much of a strain on an eye for about a week after surgery. She tells me that it slows the healing process down and may even limit the quality of the ultimate result. She is so strict about it that she doesn't even want me to cover the eye that's just been done and read with the other eye. She says the covered eye is still put under strain that way. Weird, I know.
DeleteBut you know, I think I'm going to end up with eyesight so much better than anything I've enjoyed in the last 50 years or so, that I'm willing to put up with the restrictions.
I'm happy to be back blogging for lots of reasons, but reconnecting with old friends is right at the top of the list. Avid readers are just a special bunch of people.
