I am furious at the moment, so I am apologizing right now just in case I get too carried away with this post.
I received a phone call this morning from this number 509-855-7456. On the other end of the line was a man who identified himself as an IRS agent. He then proceeded to tell me that the IRS had filed a collection lawsuit against me for back taxes between the years 2008-2013. According to him I had been audited for those years and found short, so now I owed the IRS another $3,987, including interest and penalties.
Now this yo-yo spoke with a heavy Indian accent, but the IRS does have many, many immigrants in its employ so that was not necessarily anything to worry about, so I listened to him. He told me that a warrant had been issued for my arrest, that my drivers license had been suspended, and that all my bank accounts had been frozen as of this morning. He identified himself as one Jerry Wilkins, Badge number 961277B and even gave me my "case number."
So...he gave me two choices. Go to the courthouse in handcuffs or authorize payment of the amount in question. But I had to do it now or it would be too late to save myself.
When I questioned him a bit, it turns out he had my full name, my home address, my home phone number, and the last four digits of my social security number. When I told him I would most certainly not authorize access to a bank account for him to collect the debt or wire transfer the amount to him, he turned up the heat even more and began to focus on my arrest for tax evasion, an event he predicted would occur very soon.
I hung up on the jackass, blocked the number, and considered myself fortunate not to have been taken in by the scare tactics these thieves are employing to bilk American taxpayers out of thousands and thousands of dollars. While speaking to him, I could here one other Indian having a similar conversation with someone else. I only hope they escaped his clutches.
Now I know that area code 509 is delegated to Washington state, but I don't know that that means the caller is actually sitting in Washington. With today's technology, I would not be at all surprised if a phone call can be masked via a U.S. area code. I do know that it was possible years ago to do it from Central America because a friend of mine ran an American business from Costa Rica that way and did not want his customers to know that he was calling them from outside the U.S. so all of his phone calls from Costa Rica showed a 713 area code.
Anyway, consider this a warning. Be very careful about any phone calls you receive from Area Code 509 even if that is your own code. I suspect this scam is targeting older people, but I do not know that for a fact. So EVERYBODY should make themselves and all of their friends aware of this kind of thing.
The IRS will NEVER contact you by phone or email in order to let you know that you are being sued by them. That does not happen. This sorry SOB did claim that they sent me a registered letter that had been returned as undeliverable and that Federal law prohibited re-mailing of such letters. They are a sharp bunch of crooks, folks, but they are nothing more than scum of the earth criminals.
The only thing that bothers me now is the possibility that with all the information they have about me, I am soon to be the victim of identity theft. Wish me luck on that one.

You should do more than block that phone number. You should report it for fraud.
ReplyDeleteJeane, I reported all of the details to the Federal Trade Commission this morning and they are after these guys. Problem is that this is originating in other countries and there are a whole bunch of people involved. They use fear to get people to do something before they think about the possibility that the call is from a criminal...offering names, badge numbers, case file numbers, etc. It's well planned and I can easily see why it probably works more than the average scam these lowlifes pull.
DeleteI just got a call saying g that someone is sui g my husband I'm going to call back and ask if I can pay by phone and ask his name
DeleteIt's kind of fun to string these idiots along for a few minutes, just be careful not to give anything away or take it all too seriously. They are common criminals, after all.
Delete509-316-9820 They are trying to say they work for the social security department and that your bank accounts will be frozen due to fraudulent activity. Then they ask for last 4 of your social security #. When I said no the indian accented man hung up on me. I called back and said let me talk to your boss, he said "F*CK OFF* and hung up on me.
DeleteBEWARE OF THIS NUMBER!!!
That's about what you get every time you try to challenge them. I'm pretty sure the one I spoke to was located in Pakistan...pretty much same accent, I think.
DeleteI received a phone call this morning from the number 509-690-4755 please beware of this number. Caller ID reads that it's from Polly Officer. I'm not even sure what the heck that is. But I wanted to share this with others so they know not to answer if this number comes up.
DeleteSounds like a scam title created out of lies...maybe they were trying to spell "Policy" and blew it. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteGood morning.I live in Greece.About a month ago a girl from Instagram gave me this number +1 (509)596-0388 telling me it was the number of Taylor's Kitsch actor chatting. So i started to talk with someone who is supposed the actor..I want someone to help me and search this number because from my country i can't do much..Thank you
DeleteGlad you didn't fall for the scam and glad you reported them too! I hope nothing else comes of it in regards to your own personal information.
ReplyDeleteOmg, I am glade I stopped and read the above information before I called the number back. The very same thing happened to me. I picked up the call then it was a recording tell me to call back do glade I did not!
ReplyDeleteScams are all over the internet. The only thing we have against them is to learn about them. Is better then any antivirus or security software option.
ReplyDeleteI am getting calls that only have 3 or 4 numbers on caller Id.They barely speak English and claim to be from Microsoft and that my computer has a virus , then wants me to go to the computer so he can HELP me, yeah right, I keep hanging up on them but they call 2 or 3 times a day. Why so we have a no call list if it doesn't work?
ReplyDeleteSame, these ppl. Have been harassing me since about 2014,2015, always a different scam, yes they are all Pakistan, they threaten to have me locked up if I don't send them money, through a wire transfer, or they say they are the FBI,and are going to have me locked up if I don't comply, these idiots have my personal info, address ect.wth

ReplyDelete509-661-8370 beware of this number
ReplyDeleteHad a similar incident just occur.. 509-262-6211. They left an automated voicemail stating I was being sued for fraud and a warrant has been issued for my arrest. Total scam!!
ReplyDeleteI just got a phone call from the 509 and they told me the exact same thing as the story in there they said they were from the IRS and they were going to put me in jail if I didn't send them money they said I owed them $4,600 I was audited from 2009 to 2014 and they said if I didn't pay I would go to jail for 5 years and they sent me a letter and they said it was sent back and they said that they were sending the sheriff and the IRS people to my house to arrest me if I didn't do what they said and send them money I told them I was broke I have no bank account and he was really surprised you have no bank account I said no sir I don't I said I live paycheck to paycheck I said I get paid on Wednesdays he said okay I will call you back on Wednesday and we will set something up so I'm glad I look this up thanks for posting what you posted
ReplyDeleteMy husband enjoys these phone calls. He lets them speak their piece, asks about the different flavors of pizza, among other things, and then states that the phone call is being recorded and.....BOING! The foreigner hangs up the phone!
ReplyDeleteYes, I blows me away that some people fall for this scam. The call are almost always out of the country, and the authorities can do nothing about them. If you do send them money it is gone forever, the police cannot help you. Best advice never ever give a caller any money unless you initiate the call.
ReplyDeleteI have the voicemail from these ppl saved. How do I report it?
ReplyDeleteI had a phone 509-288-4661 and 803-
ReplyDelete380-6113 He said his name is David Miller badge#78224 my case # DF560. He is calling from de IRS because I am not paying taxes sounds like he is from India. Who I call to report?
Tell your family, friends, coworkers, etc. That is the best thing we can All do! To stop them we have to get the word out, especially to our young and old people who might believe that they will go to jail if they don't pay amongst other ridiculous things they claim to be true.
DeleteI just received a call from 509-203-4568; I have call waiting but almost never do not use; I let the call go to voicemail. The message said that the "IRS is filing a lawsuit against you". That is it. The message did not identify me in any personal way. I looked up the number online and could not find it but did find this site when I looked up where area code 509 was. I called back the number and it simply rang and rang perhaps 13 times and then I got a busy signal. Perhaps this is a machine (a bot) and the crooks are trying to scare me before they place another call. That is my only hypothesis. Crooks, no question about that.
ReplyDeleteI just got a call from 509-203-4568. I was already on the phone and have call waiting which I rarely use so it went to voicemail. The message was that "the IRA is filing a lawsuit against you". No indication they knew who I was. I then looked up the number. I found nothing. I then called it back and it rang 13 times and then I got a busy signal. Then I looked online for where area code 509 was and found this site. My hypothesis is that this was a machine (obviously from the sound) and they are trying to frighten me for the NEXT phone call. I live in Rochester, NY. These are dangerous criminals, without question.
ReplyDeleteJust had a call from 509.588.1485 who said we were going to be arrested, our assets taken, and other things, IT IS A SCAM!! Call the IRS immediately to report. They will investigate. My husband has been a victim of identity theft so this was a concern.
ReplyDelete509-228-8547 called and advised me that the IRS had audited me and I would be arrested if I didn't pay them right now.Like everyone else here I blocked them
ReplyDeleteJust got the call...I called back and told them I was reporting them...looked up the number and here I am....idiots!
ReplyDeleteI just received a number like this on my home phone 5095427603, it sounded like a computer voice. Didn't call back, went on google to search for this number and it doesn't exist. BEWARE OF THIS NUMBER ALSO!!
ReplyDeleteJust answer: fbi fiels office, how can i help you.?
ReplyDeleteI live in 509 area and I get these too, I figured the scammers used local area codes to seem more legit or threatening I didnt realize peeps all over the country were getting scam calls from my area code, interesting. My guess is that it has something to do with the fact that 509 (eastern washington state) has arguably the worlds fastest prototype fiber optic internet and is home to tons and tons of server warehouses, data centers, bitcoin mines, big tech company hubs and HQs etc etc
ReplyDeleteI get these 509 calls all the time but my caller ID shows it as Haiti. Stupid 3rd world POS SCAM ARTISTS. If you don’t know the number just don’t answer and block call number. Doesn’t do much good though the turds just shift to new numbers. I get a lot of this crap after listing something on Craig’s list. If we all join forces and just ignore them and give them nothing then they get to live in there shit hole 3rd world county with their crappy lives and we keep our money. Oh and I don’t care if this is politically incorrect calling them shit hole third world countries cause I’ve travelled much of the world and I do appreciate many cultures but let’s be honest some of these places are crap holes. And to you Hollywood elitist dumb shits don’t care about you opinion either.
ReplyDeleteI got a phone call from some number starting with code 509 I answered but it declined itself then I called back and some robot told me that this call is from someone who loves me so much and I will know who she or he is after listening to music and then a song started playing after 5 seconds I ended the call and saw that it worthed a lot of money because I called an outside county
ReplyDeleteThat's awful, and I hate to hear it. It is way past time that the federal government takes this seriously enough to hit these scammer where they hurt...with jail time. I know that many, if not most, of them are from outside the U.S., but something desperately needs to be done about them.
DeleteRonnie
ReplyDeleteThis morninig i got a phone call from 509 i was asleep so i didnt recieve it so after when i called to reply it is say its incorrect am woundering why yet i just dialled it as it was
Ronnie, they don't want you to be able to reach them by phone unless they control the situation and the conversation. They are thieves.
DeleteFolks here is the most simple solution to any scam. I don’t answer any calls when I don’t recognize the number calling, if the call is so important, well, they can leave a voicemail. I can review a voicemail and verify information given by the script the scammer is using by taking my time and perform research on Google or another Search Engine. If no voicemail was left for me, the call was not important. Once the scammer’s number has been found to be a scam I block the number. The perpetrators will try again and again, but the Country Code and prefix are always the same. I block those number as well. I even downloaded an app by the name of TrueCaller that heads the scammers off from the start, granted some numbers get through, but very few do. The app cuts-off scammers and collectors from the start. Any suspected scam can be reported on the FBI. gov website. Let’s put this trash out of business. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteGood advice here, folks. Take a look.
DeleteCan you take a text message from 509 area code.
DeleteVoice mail message yesterday from 509 zip code: Crazy English voice, “Great judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense this is the final attempt to reach you to resolve this issue immediately to speak to a federal agent call back at number 509-593-5381 I repeat 509-593-5381 thank you…”
ReplyDeleteTotal scam!
At least they said thank you:)π

I checked the email carefully and senders name had female but email address was a man, they gave me a number 509-732-3247 but told me we cannot talk over phone due to my account going to be a lawsuit and charges to my social security and name. I did call this number and it rings than says the text messenger did not answer leave voice mail, that same number text me instead pushing I give my debt acct information and I have to do it since they haven't heard back from me or a court lawsuit will start .. And yet I have no clue to what comapny I owe this lawsuit or debt to.
ReplyDeleteYou don't owe a thing. They are lying to you. Delete all contact with these criminals immediately.
DeleteI just received a call from 509-316-9686, I called them back. They had my maiden name, my whole social security number(which is scary) and my current address, then he proceeded to tell me that I used a check and go in 2012?? What...um no way...he said I will be served at my house with a summons to appear in court and be arrested. Before they could say anything else..I laughed and said come on!! Then hung up...BIG SCAM!! BE AWARE!!
ReplyDeleteThat's definitely a scary amount of detail to have thrown at you. Stay alert that your personal data haas been so badly compromised. Good luck.
Deletei just got a call from +509 49 49 64 450, idk what they wanted because it didin't last, the area code said Haiti, but i thought that was extremley wierd espesially on how they got my number and what they wanted, anyway beware
ReplyDeleteThe predators are still out there. I get a similar phone call at least once or twice every couple of months. Sometimes it happens twice in one day.
DeleteBeing aware and not answering questions is the key. I have to admit that I get some rare practice using curse words out loud when one of them call now...and usually they end the call before I do.
+50918768253298 is the number i got but didn't answer
ReplyDelete+509 36 61 9095
ReplyDeleteI got a call from 509-957-2378 at work from a Private number. I was away from my desk; they did not leave a message. Just wanted to put this number out there too. Beware.
ReplyDelete+1 (509) 281-5093 this number I got a call from yesterday with back taxes claims I didn’t even listen to it.
ReplyDeleteI received a phone ca also about 5 minutes ago with the area code 509. I said hello but they immediately hung up on me. I figured it was a hoax.I
ReplyDeleteI just received a call from 509 431 8350
ReplyDeleteSaid it was from Canada. Even had a name Cruz Maribel
I didn't answer. Just moved it to block list.
I barely got a new number and it's starting again
Those guys are relentless. But sounds like you are handling them exactly the right way. I'm to the point that if I don't recognize a number or name, I don't bother answering at all, figuring that anything truly important will be left in recorded message form.
Delete+509 46 86 4362 Be careful this number
ReplyDeleteGot a call from 509 852 8929 telling me that I would be receiving 3500 a month from the health department free along with free health insurance and had to say perfectly fine on a question about my health which is not right at all so beware of a phone call from 509 852 8929 this is a wcam
ReplyDeleteSomehow these people are hired to sell you marketplace health i insurance and if you I indicate your health is good they gwt a bonus from our wonderful government. It's connected to all those ads we were bombarded with last year about receiving a stimulius check and turns out it was the money the federal government paid on your monthly insurance premium if you qualified. Not sure how they rigged the system but they were making out like a bandit on it.
