Seattle Preschoolers Lose Their Little Free Library to Arsonist
I wish I could say that this news story from Seattle surprises me, but the only surprising thing about it is that something like it hasn't been reported long before now.
Who would have ever thought that the cool "Little Free Library" program that is becoming so popular around the country would churn out as many sad news stories as it does inspirational ones? Well, here's another sad one to add to the list of stories about neighbors complaining about them, cities suing residents for removal of the little libraries, etc.
It seems that a bunch of preschool kids in Seattle have learned a little more about the real world they are growing up in than they want to know after someone set fire to the little free library in front of their school. Now, in the words of one of the kids, "the library is broken." But they, the school, and their parents are doing something about it.
The NBC television affiliate in Seattle did a story about the kids and what happened. Click here to watch the segment.
Such a shame that someone needed to destroy something so positive, but at least the response by the school, parents, and kids is a positive one!
ReplyDeleteLooks like they are going to come out way ahead on money donated, Jenclair, and that they are giving the excess to schools who need help in setting up littler public libraries of their own. Pretty nice.
DeleteHow sad. But I am glad they are doing something positive in response.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny how this kind of thing so often backfires on the offending party? Gotta love it...
