Belong to Me
Three or four times a year, despite the odds against it happening, I end up really enjoying a book that in theory just should not have worked for me at all. Belong to Me was one of those books, the first one in that category this year, in fact. Two words sum up the reluctance I had about reading the book: Chick Lit. The book synopsis screamed “Chick Lit” to me loudly and clearly but the novel seemed to have such a good word-of-mouth buzz going that I took a second look at it. And, yes, it probably is Chick Lit, but at the same time it is the kind of novel that will appeal to readers of both sexes.
Today, chick lit, tomorrow, Sex and the City! ;)
ReplyDeleteOuch...I guess I deserved that. :-)
ReplyDeleteSam,
ReplyDeleteSome of the people on my blogroll have raved about this book, but I held off because it is Chick Lit and their taste is a little more ..uh, woman-y than mine. But now I'm going to read it, based on your say-so.
I passed it by ..chick lit .. but going back now after your review.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Love Walked In is also quite good....worth trying if you liked this second one!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed it. I had the same reservations, but thoroughly enjoyed the book.
ReplyDeleteBybee, I'd still call this "chick lit" but it has a broader appeal than just that and doesn't deserve to be typecast that way. Hope you like it.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth, I hope I haven't mislead you...it surprised me that I enjoyed it so much, and that's a very good thing to have happen.
ReplyDeleterpl, I've heard that the first is more certainly "chick lit" than the sequel and I'm a little leery for that reason...just not ready for the hardcore stuff. :-)
ReplyDeleteJenclair, sounds like it surprised you the same way it did me. Don't you love when that happens...rather than the other way around?
