1938 Warner Brothers Cartoon Based on Book Titles

This classic old Warner Brothers cartoon from 1938 cleverly uses book titles as the origin of a bunch of songs and visual gags that go on for almost eight minutes.  I can't imagine today's children being much intrigued by something like this...but maybe (I hope) I'm underestimating today's kids and their awareness of classic book titles.

  1. That was pretty clever. Sadly, there are some titles in there I don't even recognize! I'm guessing most kids nowadays wouldn't be able to appreciate this...

    1. I think you're right, Jeane. The cartoon is a bit of a time capsule in that it shows what books were recognizable at the time, so recognizable that the audience would get the joke and the song connection. I think we are fast losing our sense of culture.
