The Sound of Music in an Antwerp Train Station

The internet is filled with mysteries like this one. Now I know that T-Mobile has done something similar in commercials and I'm thinking that this is possibly something they are using as a commercial in Europe - and, then again, maybe not.

Whatever it is, though, it is fun and if you haven't seen it yet, it's worth a look:

If anyone knows the details behind this Antwerp production, please share them here.

  1. Hi Sam,
I saw this a few days ago and absolutely loved it. I'm not sure the details of this particular performance, how they organized it and everything, but I think it's part of the build-up to the programs they will have for choosing a Maria for the Sound of Music production taking place there in the near future. The choosing of that person to play Maria is set up sort of like Dancing with the Stars or American Idol, where they compete and go through the judging and elimination process, until they've found the nation's perfect Maria! The Canadians did it last year for their Toronto production of the Sound of Music, and I got totally hooked and watched the whole process, which took a couple of months.
But I also think this performance is related to a new genre of the public arts, because I've seen some other kinds of performing (and temporary) arts that were done in big train stations. It's so cool! I would LOVE to see a performance like that in person!

  2. Thanks for the interesting insights and theories, Robin. I have watched this thing half a dozen times now and still find it fascinating. It's weird to see people I thought were part of the crowd suddenly join the dance as polished pros. My wife loves this thing...
