Speechless in Houston

I don't know what to say.

I'll just refer you to this Rocky Mountain News article about a woman who strangled her mother to death, hoping that she would receive a prison sentence of life so that she could do nothing but read books the rest of her life.

I'm stunned...

  2. I've heard of taking a chauffer job to have time to read, but this is insane (literally, I guess).

    Amazing.

  3. Hmmmm.

Nah. I loves my mother too much. And it's her birthday today.

    People are just....unflippingbelievable. Good God.

  4. I've often considered Thoreau's cabin in the woods, but this takes the cake!

  5. Well, I've never considered killing anyone to go to jail. However, I will admit to thinking it wouldn't be so bad in jail, no bills to pay, place to sleep, food to eat, clothes to wear, books to read. Of course, one only has to pay a visit to your local jail or state prison to realize what an absolutely absurd thought that is.

  6. I was so shocked at the thought it made me sick to my stomach. Yes, I love to read, but this idea is horrid. And wouldn't your eyes get fatigued? There's life, too.

  7. Um, huh? That's pretty scary. We all want more reading time, but that's one method I think I might just skip. Weekends and evenings weren't enough?

  8. Okay, she forgot to take her anti-psychotic medicine. I knew there had to be more going on there, still very bizarre.

  9. It's a horrific story, guys. I realize she's mentally ill but the reference to reading just struck me as truly bizarre. Heavy duty readers are already thought to be strange by the general public...thanks to stereotypes portrayed in the media.

  10. Ok, I'm incredibly late to this but, man. That literally sent shivers up my spine. I'm crazy about reading, but I'm not that crazy. Jesus.

  11. It just has "crazy" written all over it, J.S. I'm sure the woman will get her wish to be locked up, probably in a mental institution, where she will be able to do a whole lot of reading. Here's hoping they also cure her of her illness while they're at it.
